Lower School Curriculum

ISB offers an international curriculum for students between the ages of 5 and 11. This curriculum meets the high standards for accreditation of the European Council of International Schools and New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The programme embraces yet transcends the focus on traditional schools subjects. While insisting upon thorough study of the regular disciplines, students also study the arts, foreign languages, physical fitness and communication skills. This integrated approach not only equips students with academic skills but also enhances their understanding of the international community and local culture.

1. English Language Arts: comprising listening, speaking, phonics, spelling, handwriting, creative writing, grammar, library skills, and reading skills and comprehension
2. Foreign Language: Norwegian is taught in Grades 2 – 5 for native speakers, and Grades 3 – 5 for non-native speakers. French is taught in Grade 5.
3. Social Studies: History, Geography and Map Skills
4. Science and Technology
5. Mathematics
6. Physical Education
7. Computer Literacy introducing and developing core computer skills
8. The Arts: Music, Drama, Art
